Danielle Brown

Danielle Brown’s journey through the world of dance is a testament to her passion and dedication to the art form. Growing up, Danielle immersed herself in the Royal Academy of Dance training at her local dance school, under the guidance of principal Phillipa Davern. It was during these formative years that Danielle not only honed her dance skills but also began learning the intricacies of teaching as an assistant.

As her commitment to dance deepened, Danielle transitioned to the Sails Academy of Dance, where she embarked on a rigorous two-year full-time program at the young age of 16. Upon graduation, Danielle ventured into the commercial dance industry, where she had the privilege of working alongside esteemed choreographers such as Ross Coleman and John O’Connell.
Her career took her across continents, as she performed in shows like “Son Amor,” a 50-dancer-strong company, and on Cruise Ships, showcasing her talent on stages in America and Europe. Danielle’s versatility shone through as she embraced various roles, including being part of the company at Jupiters Casino during their in-house productions.

A featured artist at Movie World on the Gold Coast, followed by assuming the role of Dance Captain at prestigious venues like South Sydney Leagues Club and Sydney Showboat, her journey culminated in an unforgettable chapter as Tarot the Cancan dancer in Baz Luhrmann’s iconic production, “Moulin Rouge” – a testament to her artistry and skill.

Throughout her illustrious career, Danielle Brown’s commitment to dance has been unwavering, leaving an indelible mark on the industry and inspiring countless aspiring dancers to pursue their dreams with passion and perseverance. Her gift as a photographer, capturing dancers of all ages and skills, is second to none.

Helena Gjone
Helena Gjone is an emerging dance writer born in Norway. In 2012, she was the first Australian or Norwegian female to train in the Russian stream of the Bolshoi Ballet Academy in Moscow. Upon her return to Australia she performed in several dance events at Gold Coasts’ Home of the Arts, and was one of six dancers chosen for ‘Elevate’; a performance program by Lisa Wilson for emerging contemporary dance artists. In 2019, she graduated from Griffith University with a First Class Honours in creative writing and was runner up in the Australasian Association of Writers Programs’ Creative Non-Fiction prize.

Katie Godwin
Katie is an experienced physiotherapist, having spent more than 15 years working with clients from a variety of backgrounds, including The Australian Ballet Company. Katie lectures regularly to school students and full-time dance students on safe dance practices.

Susan Bond
Susie is the Director of ACTIVATE Dance Physiotherapy and Evolution Pilates. With a background as a Dance Physiotherapist and Pilates Instructor, she brings a wealth of experience to her practice. Having started dancing at the young age of 5, Susie’s passion for dance is deeply ingrained in her professional journey. n addition to her clinical work, Susie shares her expertise through lectures conducted at dance schools and Dance degree programs across Australia and the UK. Her commitment to advancing the field is evident in her role as a founding member of the special Dance Network within the Sports Australia group of the
Australian Physiotherapy Association. Susie is also actively involved in professional associations, holding memberships with the Australian Pilates Method Association and the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science. Through her multifaceted involvement, Susie continues to make significant contributions to the fields of dance physiotherapy and Pilates instruction.

Darcie Virtue
Darcie began her dance journey 20 years ago at the age of 3. Upon receiving a Premiers Award for her high achievements in VCE Dance, Darcie studied at Jason Colemans Ministry of Dance Full-Time School. She has since appeared as a dancer in numerous professional performances including the Fast Love World Tour: A Tribute to George Michael, Rebecca O’Connor: Simply the Best, The Channel 7 Melbourne Cup Parade, The VFL Grand Final Eve Luncheon and was a Melbourne Storm Cheerleader for two seasons. She is currently studying a Bachelor of Public Relations and Communications at Deakin University as well as upgrading to a Diploma of Clinical Pilates. Darcie is proud of her efforts at The Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School where she worked with the Dance Department in Administration and Events. Darcie is a Dance Teacher and is furthering her classical education with Cecchetti Ballet Australia, hoping to complete her Diploma Examination in the near future. Darcie is most passionate with her work at Dancetrain Magazine, where she has been reviewing now for 5 years. She believes where she has learnt the most about dance as an art form has been through writing reviews and articles for Dancetrain.

Catherine Reid
Catherine Reid joined the dancetrain team in 2019. Her role as Education Developer is to support academic dance teachers currently engaged within primary, high and secondary schools with lesson plans and personal development material. All of her lesson plans relate to articles in dancetrain. Teachers are provided with digital downloads of the latest issue to share with students. Catherine has been working in the NSW Education System for 15 years, she is an experienced dance teacher, head teacher and HSC marker for dance and an invaluable member of our team.

Dr. Kate Fennessy
Kate Fennessy, an experienced Psychologist in Five Dock, Sydney, Australia, is known for her expertise in clinical psychology. Holding a Bachelor of Psychology with Honours and a Doctor of Clinical Psychology/Master of Science, she offers a wide range of psychological services. Registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) since March 16th, 2010 (AHPRA number: PSY0001670314), Kate prioritizes evidence-based and ethical care. Specializing in eating disorders, particularly among adolescents and adults, she employs effective behavioral and family-based approaches.
