Danielle Brown is an editor, publisher, and dance specialist photographer renowned for her ability to capture artistry and precise technique in both student and professional dancers. Trained in Jazz, Contemporary, and Classical Ballet, Danielle has worked in Australia, the U.S., the U.K., and Spain, collaborating with notable choreographers such as John O’Connell, Ross Coleman, and Pamella French. In 2002, Danielle founded dancetrain magazine to provide accessible information and celebrate the achievements of Australian student dancers. She is dedicated to inclusive media that recognises academic, artistic, and creative accomplishments, emphasising that artists with diverse experiences often deliver more compelling performances. Post-COVID and amid rising living costs, Danielle strives to highlight the extraordinary individuals who shape the arts, educate future generations, and pursue dance careers. Her expertise in choreography and photography is widely recognised. Through dancetrain, she has helped over 500 artists secure U.S. work visas.

Deb Wright (she/her)
Dance Specialist Physiotherapist Consultant and Contributor
Kinetica Physiotherapy
Deb is the Practice Principal at Kinetica Physiotherapy and an APA Titled Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist with over 24 years of experience treating elite performers. She has worked with Cirque du Soleil and specialises in managing complex hip, pelvis, and ankle pain. Deb has lectured and been a Clinical Educator at James Cook University, the University of Western Sydney, and La Trobe University. She has provided physiotherapy services to organisations such as Opera Australia and Legs on the Wall.

Catherine has been working in the NSW Education System for 15 years and is an experienced Dance Teacher, Head Teacher Creative and Performing Arts and HSC Dance Marker. She has a passion for providing professional development opportunities and building supportive networks for dance teachers. She loves working with students from a range of backgrounds and experience, and inspiring ALL students to succeed in Dance.
Helena Gjone (she/her)
Feature Writer
Helena Gjone is a Norwegian-born Australian-based dancer turned writer. At sixteen she moved away from her family to train in the Russian stream of Moscow’s Bolshoi Ballet Academy. Upon her return to Australia, she performed in contemporary dance / physical theatre productions across the Gold Coast and Brisbane, while developing her research and writing skills at Griffith University. In 2019 she graduated with a first-class honours in creative writing and was awarded runner up in The Australasian Association of Writing Programs’ Creative Non-Fiction Prize. Her work has been published in Dancetrain Magazine, the Conversation, Forty South and Island Magazine. Currently, she is completing her PhD, and working on her first novel.

Physiotherapy and Pilates, Physiotherapy and Pilates, is an experienced Dance Physiotherapist and Pilates Instructor, fuelled by a lifelong passion for dance since age 5. In addition to her clinical work, Susie lectures at dance schools and programs in Australia and the UK. She’s a founding member of the Dance Network within the Australian Physiotherapy Association’s Sports Australia group, actively engaged in professional associations like the Pilates Association Australia and the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science. Susie’s multifaceted involvement makes significant contributions to dance physiotherapy and Pilates instruction.
Annie Strauch (she/her)
Dance Physiotherapist
Annie Strauch is a leading performance physiotherapist with extensive experience working with professional performers and athletes, and one of Australia’s top Vocal Physiotherapists. Annie is a titled APA Sports & Exercise and Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist, holding dual Masters degrees in Sports & Exercise Physiotherapy and Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy. She combines manual therapy, needling, and rehabilitation to create personalized treatments for each client. Her passion for performance physiotherapy began on London’s West End, where she managed performers in over 30 productions. After returning to Australia, Annie founded Performance Medicine, bringing sports science to the arts to enhance performers’ careers. She has established key partnerships with theatre companies, including the Melbourne Theatre Company, where Performance Medicine is the resident provider. Annie is highly experienced in vocal physiotherapy, working closely with ENT specialists, speech pathologists, and vocal coaches. She also presents workshops nationally and internationally for physiotherapists and speech pathologists. Performance Medicine has grown to an international provider of physiotherapy and physical health services for touring productions, offering injury prevention, treatment, and movement development, a component Annie loves managing.
